Treatment Sessions

During the initial visit, a thorough history is obtained which includes information on birth, childhood, adulthood and any trauma, emotional or physical. Previous lab results, x-rays and relevant data are reviewed. A physical exam is performed, which includes a complete structural osteopathic exam. Any further laboratory or radiographic testing will be discussed as needed.

The patient will usually be lying on the examination table or seated in a comfortable position. In the case of newborns or children, they may be held in the practitioner’s arms or treated on the table.

The treatment consists of gentle movements and/or the application of pressure to muscle, fascia, bone or viscera (organs) in such a way to release restrictions in the body and to enhance health, Generally, sessions last approximately 30-40 minutes. After receiving a treatment, patients often report feeling grounded, lighter, with a deep sense of relaxation.

After the initial visit, we suggest patients to schedule weekly appointments for at least 4-6 treatments. This will help the physician assess how your body is healing and progressing. Generally, the more chronic the condition, the more treatment sessions are needed for Osteopathy to bring about results. Acute conditions may be more easily addressed. In either case, our goal is to remove restrictions and to bring about the body’s own healing mechanism. Each treatment is individualized; no two treatments are ever the same.
