A question I often get from my patients is, "I take Juice Plus supplements, is that good enough ?". With our busy lifestyle, this seems like a viable option to get our fruits and vegetables quickly and conveniently.  A really good article from Dr. Lederman M.D., breaks down what you are exactly getting from Juice Plus compared to actual fruits and vegetables in the article below.

New research from the University of British Columbia has shown concussion-caused brain damage that had previously been invisible.
These new images suggest myelin, a crucial part of the nervous systems, is damaged in concussed athletes, and that damage can last longer than the clinical symptoms suggest.

Head Injuries may cause mental illness

1/23/2016

Previous studies have shown that head injury induces inflammation in the brain, which causes several changes. Check out this study from University of Copenhagen. They studied 113,906 people who had been hospitalized for head injuries over a 23-year period.

Previous studies have shown that head injury induces inflammation in the brain, which causes several changes—for example, an increased permeability of the blood-brain barrier. Normally the barrier protects the brain from potentially harmful contents in the bloodstream, but injury-induced inflammation may allow these substances access to the brain.

“For some individuals, this might initiate damaging processes in the brain,” Dr. Orlovska says.
Early detection can help improve the prognosis for mental illness, so Dr. Orlovska also recommends seeing a doctor as soon as any symptoms appear.

Poor Airway and TMJ issues can eventually drive your central nervous system crazy !

A high percentage of the young children I see already have symptoms of jaw joint dysfunction.  I find these symptoms often coincide with sleep apnea,  snoring, stomach aches or upper respiratory symptoms,  allergies, dyslexia, and coordination difficulties.

Take a closer look at this video. It illustrates how a serious open bite, severely incorrect resting tongue posture and swallowing pattern can affect the TMJ, head and neck posture and ultimately the entire musculoskeletal and central nervous system.

If you think you may have an upper airway resistance issue, contact your physician to get a full medical evaluation. In our practice, we recommend a team approach that includes an ENT specialist,  cranial osteopathic physician, myofunctional therapist and a functional dentist.

    Drs. Chin and  Camacho

We have worked with Dr. Nordstrom DDS (developer of the ALF appliances) for 15 years in our Southern California offices. This approach is very helpful in treating many problems with craniofacial development and function, including TMJ disorders. We have a particular interest in working with facial dysfunctions including TMD, mal-occlusions and head injuries.
